Free practice at La Conca gets the second round of the ACI Karting Italian Championship underway
The kickoff for the second round of the ACI Karting Italian Championship takes place this Thursday, May 28th, at the superb La Conca International Circuit in Muro Leccese. Entirely dedicated to free practice, this first day sets the stage for an intense weekend. The Apulia region is getting ready to vibrate to the rhythm of an exceptional field: the event’s success remains undeniable, with massive turnout across all categories. From the future champions of MINI Gr.3 (Under 10 and Scratch) to the ultra-competitive and rapidly growing OK-N and OK-NJ grids, not to mention the high-horsepower beasts of the premier KZ2 category, the show promises to be spectacular.
The La Conca Effect: Passion and Record Numbers
The success of this second event of the 2026 season is impressive: no fewer than 292 drivers and 87 teams are locked in. For a “National” event in Southern Italy, these numbers are exceptional and confirm the sheer vitality of Italian karting. This massive interest owes a great deal to the legendary Apulian track, which has been a staple of world karting for over a quarter of a century. It is on this technical 1,250-meter ribbon of asphalt that today’s biggest Formula 1 stars cut their teeth and forged their first successes. Host to the Italian Championship as early as 2000, La Conca subsequently welcomed the biggest FIA Karting events (World and European Championships) as well as major WSK Promotion meetings.
Weekend Schedule
This Thursday, May 28th, the track comes alive with 4 free practice sessions per category, while drivers and teams go through sporting and technical checks from 10:00 to 18:00.
The stopwatch’s verdict and the first on-track battles await the drivers on Friday. After a final free practice session (the fifth) and an official practice session, it’s time to get down to business with qualifying practice, followed immediately by the first qualifying heats.
On Saturday, after the traditional warm-up, the pace accelerates with the continuation and conclusion of the qualifying heats. A crucial phase where there is absolutely no room for error if drivers want to secure their ticket to the final phase.
Finally, Sunday, May 31st will deliver the grand finale. Following the morning warm-up, the Prefinals will be broadcast live on video on Kartcom starting at 09:50.
The Finals will then follow from 14:00, according to the schedule below:
14:00: MINI Gr.3 U10
14:35: MINI Gr.3
15:10: OK-NJ
15:55: OK-N
16:40: KZ2
