ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris was on top of the world after ending his remarkable season with a win in the World Championships. The teenager put on another show of power and pace to dominate proceedings and finish in first place in Bahrain.
The performance wasn’t enough to put him on the podium in the final placings of the prestigious competition after a crash in the previous round prevented him from picking up the points he needed.
But it left the Glastonbury racer delighted with his performance and let him sign off from the KFJ class in style. He said: “It was a really good weekend and great to get the win. We knew it was going to be difficult to finish in the top few overall after the last round, but to finish fourth in the world is still really good. If a couple of things had gone my way in Sarno it would have been a totally different result here I think, but these things happen.”
Lando finished second in his group and third overall in qualifying. He started the first heat in pole and after pulling away early on maintained the gap to finish first. He finished third in the second heat after getting pushed back at the start and then second in heat three coming back from ninth.
Lando finished his heats well with another first place in the final one after getting a good start early on.
Lando began the pre final in pole and made the most of another great start. He had a gap to the next drivers early on which he managed to extend to 1.4 seconds as the race went on and again finished first.
It meant he began the final in pole position which saw the first three drivers get off to a perfect start and get a good gap on the rest of the pack.
The 13-year-old couldn’t get to the same speeds as previous races and soon found himself in third.
But with the first two battling it out in front of him, Lando found a gap on a corner to get past and never looked back, finding himself with a 2.5 second lead by the end.
A first place finish was a fitting end to a brilliant season that has seen him win the WSK Euro Series, crowned CIK FIA European Champion and CIK FIA Supercup Champion as well as WSK Masters Series Vice Champion and winner of 2 of the 3 rounds he completed in the RGMC Rotax Championship!!
Next season sees him make the move up from KFJ – something he is looking forward to. He added: “This season has been amazing and has gone to plan for most of it. Now it’s on to KF2 – we’ve tested a bit and will be testing over the winter and I’m really excited to see what we can do next season!”
