No. 21 – July 5th 2015
There are great expectations for the 3rd and last round of the CIK-FIA European KZ & KZ2 Championship, which is going to be hosted by the Belgian circuit of Genk. On the 1,350 metres of the Horensbergdam International Circuit, the asphalt is going to be as hot as ever because of the duels between the top drivers who are aiming at winning the titles. The skilled drivers of the shifter category are ready to do their best and both the categories have in their entry list many drivers who can achieve a great result: this is one of the reasons which make the event absolutely unmissable. Engines will start on Thursday 9th July for the Free Practice; then, on Friday 10th, drivers will battle in Qualifying. On Saturday 11th the Heats and then, on Sunday 12th, the great finale. The Belgian facility is going to host also the young drivers of the Karting Academy Trophy for the 2nd round of the one-make event. There are 149 entrants to the event: fans will be able to follow their performance in the final phase thanks to the live streaming on cikfia.tv and cikfiachampionship.com. The two webchannels will broadcast the Sunday races starting with the Drivers’ Parade. As usual, it will be possible to enjoy the recap of the whole event on Motors TV, which will air a special report the next week.
The challengers in Genk.
In KZ, the Italian Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone), thanks to his two victories, leads with 67 points. In second position, with 56 points, his team-mate, the Italian Marco Ardigò. They are going to play the leading roles in the race towards the title. However, we should not forget the English Ben Hanley (Croc-TM), who has been rather consistent so far and could seize the moment and finish ahead of the two leaders. The situation seems, apparently, less uncertain in KZ2, where the Spanish Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG-Maxter-LeCont) leads with 52 points. The Spaniard has 17 points more than his three closest pursuers: the Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM), the French Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Italian Luca Corberi (Tony Kart-Vortex), all with 35 points. But nothing is decided yet and we will need to wait until the chequered flag to know the name of the new European Champion. The Spanish Marta Garcia Lopez is the leader of the Academy Trophy, but the English Alfie Brown is only 1 point behind. With still two rounds remaining, the standings of the one-make Parolin-FIM-Bridgestone Trophy appears to be as uncertain as ever.
