The 7 Laghi Kart Circuit in Castelletto di Branduzzo, in Pavia (Italy), hosted the 2012 WSK Final Cup. Chiesa Corse on track with 6 drivers in KF2 and KF3, with the conquest of a victory and a podium.
Callum Ilott – KF3 – Those who win, laugh
4th after the qualifyings, he starts his usual spectacle of victories and fast laps in the heats: three times 1st and a 3rd place, with two best laps, amount to 2nd place in the overall qualification charts. In his prefinal (B), he starts from pole, scores best lap and wins with a lead of 8 seconds over the runner-up. In the final he has to fight a little harder, but takes home a well-deserved victory.
Lance Stroll – KF3 – With an extra final…
He does well in three heats (11th, 8th and 6th), but in the penultimate his chain breaks and he is 18th. He qualifies 25th and in his prefinal (A) he is 14th. In the final he does a great rebound race from 28th to 12th, but it’s not enough to stand among the best. Although, if he just could’ve had an extra final, he probably would be on top now.
Dan Ticktum – KF3 – Better in the first half of the weekend
At the beginning of the weekend he is almost perfect: in the qualifyings he is 3rd ahead of his teammate Ilott, then in the heats he is 2nd, 7th, 12th (due to a contact) and 3rd. He qualifies 11th and in his prefinal (A) he ends with an excellent 6th place. In the final he tries to make his way among the best, but can’t manage. Out before the end.
Nikita Mazepin – KF3 – Needs to improve his qualifyings
He races well all weekend, but, as often happens, fails to leave a mark in the initial qualifyings. The 34th place requires him to do huge climbs in the heats, which he manages to do: 13th, 3th, 8th and 11th.
22nd after the heats, he rises well in his prefinal (B) to place 6th and qualify for the final. A contact in the decisive race then forces him to close 24th.
James Pull – KF3 – More muscle, but promising
Coming from the 60 Mini, he’s at his first international races in the KF3. 17th after the qualifyings, in the heats he is steady, but manages to score a best lap. He is 28th overall and in his prefinal (B) places 11th, qualifying for the final. Yet, here he loses his chain in the warm-up lap and is forced to retire. He will grow, even if he needs to develop muscular strength to better control his kart.
Thiago Vivacqua – KF2 – A 2nd golden place
In the World Cup he’s already proven that, accidents aside, he could be one of the best. This time, in the WSK Final Cup, he confirms the excellent shape he’s in: 7th in the qualifyings, then in the first heat he breaks the brake support and is forced to slow down, closing 10th; then he’s 7th and 2nd. In the prefinal he climbs back up to 5th and in the final he leads big time, reaching a nice podium in 2nd place.
