The sun ended up warming Angerville for the start of the Final of the FIA Karting European Championship – Junior. Tuuka Taponen (Redspeed / Iame) and James Wharton (FA Kart / Vortex) took the lead in front of Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (Parolin / TM) and Ugo Ugochukwu (FA Kart / Vortex). 21 laps were on the programme.
Wharton was caught in a clash with Macéo Capietto (KR / Iame) immediately after the first corner and Taponen fumbled in front of Kucharczyk and Ugochukwu, followed by Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart / Vortex) and Conrad Lauren (FA Kart / Vortex ). The latter two attacked their team-mate Ugochukwu to take 3rd and 4th in pursuit of Kucharczyk. Alex Dunne and Jamie Day were pushing hard to return while Josep Marti Sobrepera (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 5th. Taponen continued to widen the gap with his pursuers, led by Kucharczyk, 2.5” behind, while Ten Brinke and Laursen were getting closer. Day was in 6th place ahead of Evann Giltaire and Dunne. Amand had dropped to 12th ahead of Robert De Haan (Energy / TM).
Kucharczyk was losing ground at the end of the race while Ten Brinke and Laursen were in the top three. Day continued to attack and passed Laursen, followed by Sobrepera. Laursen and Giltaire made contact just before the last lap. Taponen headed for a big victory more than 6” ahead of Ten Brinke, Day was 3rd on the podium in front of Sobrepera and Ugochukwu. Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart / Vortex) finished in 6th place ahead of Kucharczyk and Dunne. Amand was 9th, Antonelli 19th and De Haan 20th.
