Known to the viewers of F1 Grands Prix, whose commentators relayed the controversy last year, the double yellow flag is less common in karting. In Finland, at the CIK-FIA European Championship, it has already been used several times since the start of free practice. The meaning of the yellow flag and the double yellow is very clear, even though the first command “reduce your speed” is rarely respected…
The following is an excerpt from Article 2.15 – Significance of Flags (in General Precisions of the CIK-FIA)
– a single waved flag: reduce your speed, do not overtake and be ready to change direction. There is a danger on the edge or part of the track.
– two vigorously-waved flags: reduce your speed, do not overtake and be ready to change direction or stop. A danger totally or partially obstructs the track.
The difference is essential in terms of safety!
