Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart / Vortex) improved the fastest time several times in the first qualifying session of KF at the Winter Cup, closely tailed by Karol Basz (Kosmic / Vortex) and Martijn Van Leeuwen (CRG / TM). An Australian unknown in Europe, Troy Loeskow (Ricciardo / Parilla) was a fraction slower in 2nd position, but Basz overtook him up late in the session ahead of Dionisios Marcu (CRG / Parilla) and Van Leeuwen. Benjamin Lessennes (Zanardi / Parilla) finished 7th. Nielsen, the strong leader, dropped all his opponents by nearly 3/10 with a time of 44”437.
Ben Barnicoat (BirelART / Parilla) took the lead in the second session, despite attempts from Mark Litchfield (CRG / Parilla). But Alexander Vartanyan (Tony Kart / Vortex) then put himself in front and Juan Correa (Energy / TM) joined the lead group. Felice Tiene (CRG / Parilla) moved into the top four while the battle raged. Vartanyan remained the fastest with 44”576 in front of Barnicoat, but Sasakorn Chaimongkol sneaked into 3rd place from Litchfield and Tiene.
Although the second series has proven throughout faster than the first, Nielsen performance ensures pole position in the category before Vartanyan, Barnicoat, 4th Chaimongkol, Litchfield 5th and 6th Basz.
