The Ortona circuit lost three chicanes which broke the rhythm before. It is now a very fast and frankly too fast track. The comparison with the WSK Final Cup in 2011 is not perfect because of the very different climatic conditions, but now KF Junior are now lapping faster than KZ1 at the time, and the gain between the two configurations is established around 4” for both KFJ and KF. The racing will take place at the slipstream and at the few braking points.
Drivers like the change it seems, delighted not to have to climb on big kerbs. However, the bumpy asphalt has not settled. Backs suffer and some braking zones are disturbed, so all the competitors are unanimous, too many bumps.
Another important element in the race is the dust that has gathered off line. The first start of the day gave some advantage to the outside lane, while the inner row raised an impressive reddish cloud and lost a few lengths. But it is also on other parts of the circuit, which makes overtaking hard.
Finally, the weather is forecast to go from intense heat to a stormy freshness, and storms reaching the track aren’t ruled out.
