The weather was great at more than 20 ° as the competitors in the European KZ2 Championship took to the track for the first of their two pre-finals. Marco Zanchetta (Maranello / TM) and Riccardo Romkema (Zanardi / TM) were on the front row of pre-final 1. Zanchetta started perfectly with Romkema trying to attack from the right 90 degree corner but lost time and places in this failed operation. Jan Midrla (Birel / TM) passed to second position, while Douglas Lundberg (Maranello / TM) took the lead. Simone Brenna (TB Kart / Modena) quickly took third position and Romkema and Midrla fell to the back. Marcel Jeleniowski (CRG / TM) was ahead of Alessandro Manetti (Praga / Parilla) in fourth position.
Both Maranellos pulled away by more than a second from Brenna, isolated in third place before halfway. Symen Wiggers (CRG / TM) was 6th behind Manetti, followed by Patrick Kappis (Birel / TM), Dominik Schmidt (CRG / TM), Christopher Hays (Energy / TM) and Victor Öberg (Gillard / TM). The gap remained stable at around 0.3” between the leader Lundberg and his teammate Zanchetta, Brenna failed to close back up to the two men, but maintained his lead over the chasing pack led by Jeleniowski. Romkema was fastest in his rise from the depths. Zanchetta was more incisive at the finish, but Lundberg gave nothing away and won the race, Brenna finished 3rd, Jeleniowski 4th, Manetti fifth, Kappis sixth, Wiggers 7th, Schmidt 8th, Hays 9th and Öberg 10th. Romkema remained outside the final with his 24th place.
