The dilemma of the tyre choice didn’t worry the KF3 teams for long before the start of qualifying at PFI: the rain intensified during the lunch break, so it would be truly wet.
Under pouring rain, Dorian Boccolacci (Intrepid / TM) set the pace in the first session, more than a second ahead of Simone Cunati (Top Kart / Parilla) and Connor Jupp (Energy / Vortex). Simone Cunati narrowed the gap in second place, but Boccolacci improved the fastest lap to 1’14” 536.
The track was rather less wet for the second series, with less rainfall. George Russell (Intrepid / Vortex) led from Nathan Aston (Intrepid / TM) and Joonas Lappalainen (Ninar / Vortex). But then we saw the names of Valentin Naud (Formula K / TM) and Gabi Aubry (Birel / TM) at the top of the illuminated scoreboard that shone in the darkness of the early afternoon. Aston came in first ahead of Luca Corberi (Kosmic / Vortex) and impressed with a series of fastest laps that ended with a superb 1’13” 541,” or 1.1 better than Corberi, 3rd was Sam Oram-Jones ( Intrepid / TM) and fourth Naud. The pole in this series was established as almost a second faster than the fastest time for Boccolacci.
Martin Kodric (FA Kart / Vortex) quickly dropped under 1’15, ahead of Santino Ferrucci (Energy / TM). Callum Ilott (Zanardi / Parilla) took the lead with 1’14” 628, Ferrucci pushed the record down with 1’14” 327, then Kodric sped to 1’13” 788 and 1’13 ‘ ‘456 on the wire on the final lap from Ilott, Ferrucci and Alessandro Piccini (Kosmic / Vortex).
The rain stopped for the fourth session. Arthur Lehouck (Sodi / Parilla) was in the lead ahead of Alex Palou (CRG / BMB) and Alex Barrabeig (Birel / BMB). Lehouck was improving, but Romain De Leval (Kosmic / Parilla) took advantage, Lehouck replied and set the fastest time in his group in front of Niko Kari (Ninar / Vortex) on 1’13” 760, De Leval and Palou.
The 101% would be applied in light of the gap of 1.1 seconds between sessions. Kodric brilliantly took the pole position ahead of Nathan Aston, Arthur Lehouck and Dorian Boccolacci.
