Pascal Belmaaziz has had a short weekend at Val d’Argenton in the WSK Euro Series. The DR Racing Kart France driver had experienced problems less grippy tyres in Qualifying, but in the first heat on Friday night he had a big crash on the fifth lap, in the rain, two drivers touched at the end of the straight and one of them came back on the track at the end of a spin. Belmaaziz was surprised by a surge of spray from the karts and couldn’t do anything to avoid it. He took off, by a good two feet, and performed a somersault before hitting the ground hard. The chassis was destroyed, his helmet completely shredded, and the driver injured in the shoulder. Thiago Vivacqua also crashed, and got stuck in his kart by the tubes folding on his leg.
The hospital confirmed the diagnosis of Doctor Danilo Rossi, a fractured right clavicle, but no other damage at the French driver who will have long weeks of enforced rest, especially since his license was withdrawn under a new procedure, pending approval from a doctor confirming his full recovery.
Brice De Gaye will take over at DR France in KZ2 in an interesting development in light of its performance in free practice, provided that the weather doesn’t not interfere too much with the running of the event.
In order not to shock our young audience, images of the accident and the damaged equipment will not be published here.
