Spring continues to be wet this year and the drivers are getting a little tired of running on a wet track. At Val d’Argenton, showers alternate with sun on Friday, May 4, which didn’t make it easy for drivers in the WSK KF3 Euro Series. Slicks were essential for the three groups in qualifying, but the track was rained on a bit more in the last session. Despite this the differences were not significant enough to apply the 101% rule.
Alex Palou (CRG / BMB) set the best time of 53” 642, the fastest in group 2, ahead of Dorian Boccolacci (Intrepid / TM) on 53” 645, then Dan Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla ) on 53” 646. George Russell (Intrepid / Vortex) set the fastest time of the third group with 53” 701 in front of Slavko Ivanovic (RK / Vortex) and Ilari Piispanen (LH / BMB).
SuperPole mixed up the top 4 in each group, especially as the rain was an added complication. Martin Kodric (FA Kart / Vortex) took the opportunity to take pole with 1’02” 165 from Piispanen and Palou. Russell was in fifth ahead of Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Lance Stroll (Zanardi / Parilla). In 8th and 9th Ticktum and Boccolacci lost out, and Max Defourny (PCR / Parilla) finished in 12th place.
Elsewhere in the rankings, there is the interesting 17th fastest lap from Lucas Marchi (ARTGP / Parilla) ahead of Connor Jupp (Energy / Vortex) and Gabriel Aubry (Birel / TM). Julien Darras (Tony Kart / Parilla) finished 24th ahead of Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / Vortex), Robert Shwartzman (Intrepid / TM) and Luca Corberi (Kosmic / Vortex). Santino Ferrucci (Energy / TM) is only in 34th, Valentine Naud (Formula K / TM) 40th, Alessio Piccini (Kosmic / Vortex) 47th.
