There was maximum voltage at the start of the U18 final at Essay, as clouds built up in the Norman sky. Anthoine Hubert (Sodi) was on pole with Pyry Ovaska (Maranello) next to him, and Dave Blom (Intrepid) and Antonio Giovinazzi (PCR) following the second row. Giovinazzi spun and went off a few yards past the line, while a big crash happened on the line in the pack after the someone didn’t start. The slow process was applied. Federico Savona (Top Kart) took 5 places, he was 2nd behind Hubert, Yves Von Aesch (Swiss Hutless) was third ahead of Ovaska, Dalgeish and Blom.
The race resumed on the fourth lap. Hubert was closely followed by Savona, but Von Aesch took second place. Hubert escaped slightly. Leo Roussel (Sodi) made spectacular overtaking manoeuvres whenever he wanted. Now Ovaska closed on Von Aesch. Blom lost ground, and was in 10th ahead of Easthope in 11th. Ovaska took second on lap 8. Mathew Graham (Zanardi), starting 10th was back to fifth behind Beccaria (Top Kart).
Ovaska was following Hubert who decided to defend hard. Graham set the fastest time, Roussel was also very fast. It was very close between Hubert and Ovaska. Von Aesch retired when he was third, Beccaria also lost time and Graham found himself third. Hubert, still threatened by Ovaska, was under pressure but the audience were behind him. The battle was very intense, but the French driver still retained his lead, 3 / 10, to win a great race. Pyry Ovaska was a beautiful second, from Matthew Graham, still fast. Leo Roussel finished fourth by nothing from Easthope, Dalgeish and Blom.
