Iglesias flew, enjoying a small hesitation from Abbasse. Grosso took second position from Abbasse while Yannick Savard lost all chances in a collision. Tilkin, Fiault and Brenna retired on the first lap. Abbasse braked magically late and seized control of the race ahead of Iglesias. Grosso was 3rd, Pesce 4th, Benoit 5th and Goupy 6th, who were the chasing pack.
Pesce took 3rd position with authority, and Goupy was now 5th. Ragues was eighth in front of Figheira and Chaumat. Iglesias did not drop back, the race could still change, nothing was certain.
