Sarno, September 2009, first World Cup for KF3. A crystal clear result: third place for Pierre Gasly on a Sodi ST 32 chassis.
After emerging in GPO thanks to his very promising performances, Pierre Gasly had a successful debut in KF3. Already in on it during the European Championship at Zuera, he took another important step forward at Sarno. The driver commented: “I came here to enjoy myself with the team on this World Cup circuit. I made many laps with soft tyres, because it took me a while to get used to them and to adapt the way a drive”.
His team manager confirmed: “These practice days at Sarno were fundamental. The driver had the opportunity to get ready for the new race conditions, which differed from those found in France. We had a chance to work effectively and test many different solutions, in order to find the right setup for our equipment. This was our secret! Of course, we did not hope we could reach such results in the final… Pierre bluffed us!”
Indeed, Gasly’s performance was brilliant: 18th in timed qualifiers, 15th after the heats, 12th in the pre-final. He could have even reached the top 10. Indeed, he was second in the World Cup for eight laps and became the leader for a while! At the arrival, his team was literally bursting with joy while his face only showed a timid smile: “I am happy… third… not bad for a rookie…” Pierre, what a guy!
