The two Maranellos of Vainio and Groman started on the front row for the first Super KF heat. The rain stopped but the track was very slippery and everybody chose wet tyres without hesitation. Vainio kept the advantage on the line, but Groman cleverly chose a beautiful outside line that allowed him to exit faster and take the lead at the first righthander. Kozlinski retained his attack skills in the wet and started to mingle with the two leaders.
Grice came off at the start, and Catt and Gromanova went out together and lost a lot of time. The top three fought hard and changed positions several times per lap. Kozlinski moved into 1st place on the 3rd lap, while Groman pushed Vainio. Rowland challenged Vainio and managed to pass easily on the next lap. Litchfield was still 4th but soon dropped back. The gaps began to widen, while Puhakka, Parrott and De Brabander gained ground.
Puhakka overcame Rowland in the end, and Vainio could no longer contain his opponents and succumbed to attacks from Parrott, Dreezen and Cesetti. The victory did not escape Koko, and Rowland’s successful operation ended with him finishing 3rd. Parrott, Dreezen, De Brabander and Grice moved up the table.
