Frank Porte Ruiz, who entered the French F4 Championship in 2023, has become a seasoned single-seater driver. His results have steadily improved over the seven races he contested last season. As part of the FFSA Academy, he learnt a lot at the wheel of his Mygale with its Renault turbo engine, in collaboration with the engineers of this competition which has trained an incredible number of professional drivers, several of whom have gone on to compete in Formula 1.
With plenty of motivation and a strong desire to realise his potential, the Andorran logically has chosen to continue for another season to put everything he has learnt into practice. 2024 began with the Easter Cup at Nogaro. Frank’s expectations were high in the south-west of France, but the meeting didn’t quite live up to his expectations.
“My Qualifying session was disrupted by traffic,” says Frank Porte Ruiz. “I was hampered on my best lap and had to settle for 12th place. Given the extremely small gaps between me and my rivals, every detail counts. Four tenths better would have allowed me to start from the second row in Race 1. What’s more, a collision meant I had to retire. Then, Race 2 was cancelled due to a thundery shower which completely soaked the track, so there was only Race 3 left to save my weekend.”
Starting 13th, the 17-year-old Andorran hopeful got off to a good start and quickly gained places. A collision with another car in the middle of a very lively field damaged his front wing. “The handling of my F4 started to deteriorate and the points I was hoping to score in the Championship by trying to get into the top 10 were gone”.
