There were blue skies with a few clouds and 24° for the OK-Junior Final of the fifth and final round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series in Franciacorta.
Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) led at the start ahead of Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM), Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame), Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame), Kiril Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM). Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) was one of the victims of a collision on the first lap. Ramaekers soon overtook Costoya for 2nd place. Jack Iliffe (Parolin/TM) went off the track and Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) also retired. Wherrell led by more than a second on lap 5. Martinese put the pressure on Costoya and his 3rd place. But his attack didn’t go according to plan as he found himself 11th and Costoya 6th. Van Langendonck was back in 3rd ahead of Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) and David Cosma-Cristofor (KR/Iame). Ramaekers quickly closed on Wherell, who was nervously defending his position before the halfway point. The Briton managed to regain a lead of more than 2 tenths over the Belgian. Van Langendonck came back into contact and closed the gap on his team-mate, overtaking Ramaekers. Toniolo even moved up to 3rd place and Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) was hot on Ramaekers’ heels. Behind Cosma-Cristofor, Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) had moved up to 7th. Lindblom attacked Ramaekers for P4. Wherrell took a fine victory and the Championship 6 tenths ahead of van Langendonck. Toniolo secured 3rd place a second later, while Lindblom in 4th and Ramaekers in 5th fought it out to the end. Cosma-Cristofor (+14 pl) and Bondarev (+15 pl) were neck and neck in 6th and 7th places. Costoya finished 8th, Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex) 9th and Martinese 10th. Louis Cochet had moved up four places to 17th.
Wherell therefore won the Champions of the Future Euro Series Championship ahead of van Langendonck and Ramaekers, who was disappointed to lose 2nd place in the Final.
