88 drivers were divided into four timed sessions at the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 in Zuera. The sky was not too cloudy, the temperature was 15° and the wind was moderate.
The starts were generally made in the last four of the six minutes of each session to give three laps.
Session 1: Stolcermanis – 58”256
Laura Bourguet (Oberon/TM) made her presence felt in the lead from the very beginning. Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) was the fastest on the first lap. Maxim Rehm (Birel ART/TM) then took the lead on the second lap ahead of Luka Sammalisto (KR/TM) and Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM). The latter improved on the third lap with a time of 58”536 and concluded in the lead on the fourth lap with a time of 58”256. Rehm followed by 9 hundredths, Sammalisto finished 3rd at 1.5 tenths ahead of Daniel Macia (KR/Iame) and Imbourg at 2 tenths. Corentin Rousseau (Maranello/TM) finished 9th, Tim Locati (Sodi/TM) 12th, Celian Gallasin (Maranello/TM) 15th and Laura Bourguet 22nd.
Session 2: Bertuca – 58”027
After the first flying lap, Yevan David (Sodi/TM) was leading against Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM). Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) started well after the others and was already very fast. He took the provisional pole on his second lap with 58”027, while Nomblot and Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) fought for 2nd place, a tenth further back. Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) took 4th place and Samuele Leopardi (CRG/Morgan) 5th. David finished 6th, Vincent Wanègue (Sodi/TM) 15th and Enzo Lacreuse (Mach 1/Modena) 18th.
Session 3: Slater – 58”065
The first lap was completed at a more reasonable pace than previously. Maximilian Paul (DR/Modena) was ahead of Morgatto (Birel ART/TM) and Jorge Pescador (Kali/TM) on lap 2. Freddie Slater (Birel ART/TM) improved to 58’065 on lap three, less than four hundredths off Bertuca’s time. Alex Marigliano (Maranello/TM) followed in 2nd at 0.046”, Pescador was 3rd at 0.126”, then Adrian Malheiro (CRG/TM) 4th at 3 tenths and Paul 5th. Damien Droux (Sodi/TM) finished 20th.
Session 4: Powell – 57”972
The drivers stretched out along the entire length of the track. On the second lap, Alex Powell was leading ahead of Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame). Pole position had already been beaten. Powell set the pace on lap 3 with a time of 57’972, Nakamura-Berta followed at 0.127”, then Daniel Stell (KR/Iame), Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) 4th and Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) 5th. Oscar Py (Birel ART/TM) set an excellent 7th time.
