Italy is the centre of attention as the new OK-N and OK-N Junior categories are launched. While the ACI Karting Italian Championship does not start until 19 May in Cremona, it is the Coppa Italia di Zona that one has to turn to for some data.
One or two events, even none in Basilicata-Calabria, took place according to the calendar of the nine regions that make up the Coppa. Zone 4 Lazio Molise, Abruzzo recorded the best start with 9 OK-N and 6 OK-NJ drivers, which is not bad for regional races where the number of participants remains moderate, even in the most popular categories. In total, there were about 25 OK-N and 20 OK-NJ in the races throughout the territory.
We could probably have hoped for more, but we must be patient. On the one hand, it seems that the delivery of OK-N engines is struggling to keep up with demand. On the other hand, there are currently well over 45 OK-N / OK-NJs in circulation, but some competitors are still driving in training, waiting for greater numbers before launching into the competition. The famous snake that bites its own tail.
Is there a real interest in the OK-N? Yes, there certainly is.
Is the launch successful? It’s too early to tell. At this stage, nothing is won, but nothing is lost. The Italian national championship will soon give more complete indications.
