The sun warmed up the atmosphere with 18° in the air in Portimão and a light wind for the Super Heats of the OK European Championship on Sunday morning.
Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) started at the front of the field in Super Heat A. The outside line started slightly behind. Ean Eyckmans (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 2nd behind Severiukhin, Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) 3rd, Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) 4th, David Walther (Tony Kart/Vortex) 5th and Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/Vortex) 6th ahead of Taponen. The slow procedure was triggered to allow for the replacement of the impact barriers after a crash on the first lap. The race resumed on the third lap. Taponen came back to 6th ahead of Walther while the leader Severiukhin tried to get away from Eyckmans. James Egozi (Tony Kart/Vortex) had lost 17 places in 21st position. Nakamura moved up to 3rd, Coluccio 4th ahead of Bertuca and Walther. Severiukhin resisted the pressure of Eyckmans until the last lap and won by 3 tenths. Nakamura secured 3rd place ahead of Walther. Joel Bergstrom (Exprit/TM) had moved up 15 places to 5th position before dropping back to 15th due to a loose spoiler. Matheus Morgatto (KR/Iame) was back in 5th, with Bertuca securing 6th place against Coluccio and Taponen. Arthur Rogeon (KR/Iame) had made up 10 places to 10th, but was classified 18th (spoiler), Malo Bolliet (KR/Iame) finished 14th (+9 pl).
Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) maintained his advantage at the start of Super Heat B, Evan Giltaire (KR/Iame) was next followed by Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM). Giltaire took the lead on the second lap with Stolcermanis following him by several lengths. Turney was 4th behind Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex). Juho Valtanen (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 5th ahead of Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM). In the lead, Giltaire opened up a significant gap, 1,5” on the fifth lap on Stolcermanis and set the fastest times. Alex Powell (KR/Iame) battled with Matheus Ferreira (KR/Iame) for the top 10. Turney caught up with Stolcermanis after the halfway point, while Deligny was looking for the 5th position held by Pedersen. The pass took place with five laps to go. Turney took 2nd place a little later and Deligny overtook Valtanen for 4th place. Giltaire took a superb victory with a 2.2″ lead and the fastest lap. Turney was 2nd, Deligny 3rd after a spoiler penalty for Stolcermanis. Valtanen completed the top five ahead of Pedersen.
