In groups of six, the drivers followed one another throughout the day on the track of Paul Ricard with major progression observed for the 18 young hopefuls of the Winfield Volant.
On Sunday morning, the differences were apparent between the drivers who already had experience in single-seaters and the newcomers. But the instructors helped them progress dramatically by analysing videos and data acquisition.
At the wheel of cars calibrated for greater equality, there were finally five drivers who managed to get under 1’34 and approach the benchmark time set by Caio Collet, winner of the 2018 Volant. These were Gillian Henrion, Jules Mettetal, Nicky Hays, Hadrien David and Evan Spenle.
Not far off was Callum Bradshaw, Iasck Hadjar, who made notable progress since the morning, as well as Victor Bernier and Enzo Joulié. But we recall that in 2018, Stuart White was not among the fastest during the first session, before surprising the next day to win his qualification for the Final. The girls have continued to narrow the gap to the fastest and it is currently Doriane Pin in the lead of the group.
