As this picture taken on Friday morning in Lonato shows very well, calm has now returned to international paddocks. And yes, the new measure by the CIK-FIA, sometimes contested, has come into effect since 1st January, 2019: no option of starting the engines in the paddock. Although the drivers did not have to consider it at Adria during the first two WSK events, at South Garda Karting the regulation has been applied from today for the Winter Cup.
And the change is audible, as conversations can now be held without screaming, while preserving the fragile eardrums. If we add the absence of toxic fumes, we can now communicate and see each other. Is everything perfect? Almost!
Indeed, we have noticed there seems to be a quite unusual resurgence of decibels and blue fumes in a field close to the circuit. It is a dedicated place, much like a smoking area, as part of a general detoxification process. According to the French proverb “Paris was not built in a day”, adapted from its initial Italian version “Rome was not built in a day”, sometimes it takes time to achieve a goal.
In any case, we can applaud with both hands, but not too loudly, so as not to disturb the peace in the paddock.
