Because of the large number of participants, 113 drivers, the official Free Practice sessions of the FIA ??Junior Karting World Championship started at 7:30 am on Friday morning and consisted of only two sessions. The final gap between the four groups was quite large, more than 7 tenths of a second. At this stage the composition of the groups and the choice of the teams to continue testing or not, greatly influenced the performance. Still, Taylor Barnard (KR / Parilla) was fastest with 51”784 ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG / TM), Marcus Amand (KR / Parilla) and Gabriele Mini’ (Parolin / TM) in 4th by 0.167”. Victor Bernier (Kosmic / Parilla) was also in the top 10, while Isack Hadjar (Exprit / TM) and Sami Meguetounif (Exprit / Vortex) also had good times. The favourites were more or less present at the top of the unofficial standings, but the very good lap by the Swede Caesar Kristiansson (Tony Kart / Vortex) making his return to racing, was noticed. Pretty fast in the first session, Craig Tanic (Birel ART / TM) was less effective in the second. Tom Uzan (Kosmic / Parilla) set some interesting times too.
The sky will be perhaps a determining element of Qualifying: the weather forecast shows rain at the end of the day, but without specifying with certainty if the Qualifying period of 13:10 to 15:20 will be affected or not.
