There was great weather and sunshine without wind on Wednesday morning for the Micro Max Timed Qualifying for the 2017 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals at Portimao. With a session of 8′ the drivers rushed on the track as soon as the green flag went out. Adrian Malheiro (PRT), Jack Jeffers (USA), Bent Crews (USA), Keanu Al Azhari (UAE) and Théophile Nael (FRA) were the top contenders. After overcoming his technical problems in the last free practice session, Louis Iglesias (FRA) was able to increase the pace. Dani Van Ruiten (NLD) and Leon Zelenko (CRO) finished very well at the front of the category with a perfect tie on 1’08”795 ahead of Malheiro, with Nael 4th and Ryota Horachi (JPN) 5th ahead of Al Azhari. Iglesias took the 10th position.
