After the summer break, the French F4 Championship restarted on the Magny-Cours track in the Nièvre in the GT Tour meeting. The next event, which is the penultimate round, will take place this coming weekend (26-27 September), on the Navarra circuit in Spain, with Frenchman Valentin Moineault who has scored 223 points, tightening his stranglehold on the championship. But his rivals haven’t thrown in the towel and a fierce battle for points can be expected in Spain before the decider on the Paul Ricard circuit. The gaps are closing and the current leader will have his work cut out to maintain his dominance until the end of the season.
Since the start of the 2015 championship, Moineault has put on a great performance. He is the only driver to have scored points in every race, and apart from a setback in the second heat at Magny-Cours when he went off, he has racked up eight top-3 finishes including five victories. He is determined to continue in the same vein in Spain, and all eyes will be focused on those of his rivals who are still in with a chance, and who will battle for victory to the bitter end.
So far the only drivers to have given Moineault a run for his money are his fellow-countrymen Sacha Fenestraz, who’s second in the title chase with 180 points, Gabriel Aubry and Giuliano Alesi in third and fourth places with 151 and 120.5 points respectively. Behind these four, another Frenchman, Julien Darras with 119 points, rounds out the top 5, which has stayed the same since the Budapest round. All four are potential title contenders even if a large gap separates them from Moi- neault.
