The apprenticeship in cars is not always easy for a young driver, especially when the weather causes difficulties continuously throughout the second meeting of the season. Kami Laliberté was able to make the most of the unfortunate experience which didn’t prevent him from scoring valuable points on the Bugatti circuit at Le Mans and he leaves with a total of 32. He is already thinking about the next race taking place on the street circuit in the city of Pau.
At the end of the session of qualifying sessions, Kami Laliberté was in 11th position and did not benefit from the starting grids in race 1 and 3.
For the first race on Saturday, Kami made a slow start on slicks but soon got rid of the competitors ahead of him. He easily gained back positions after the mid point and passed the chequered flag in the 8th place.
During the second race of the weekend, Kami Laliberté had the advantage of the reverse grid principle and took the start from the second row of the grid. The weather conditions had not improved and the race started under the safety car. Kami Laliberté made a very good start, not taking his eyes off the first two competitors. The Canadian attempted an attack to gain second place but his rival resisted. Battle raged in the pack and Kami Laliberté made a mistake putting him in 8th position, a position he held until the end of the race.
In the last race of the three scheduled Kami started from 11th place but was curtailed on lap 4. Indeed, Kami Laliberté, after going off the track, was forced to retire.
Kami Laliberté: “Overall, I am disappointed with my weekend at Le Mans. My underperformance in qualifying meant I was very handicapped for the whole of my weekend. Despite this I managed to climb up the places in each race and overtook well to gain precious points in the championship. During race 3, I was targeting a beautiful final position but an error in judgment made me make a mistake that forced me to retire. I am confident because I know I have the top speed and I am fully focused on my preparation for the Grand Prix de Pau. “
The next meeting is at Pau for the third round of the championship on 15th, 16th and 17th May.
