At the end of the last race of the weekend on the Paul Ricard circuit won in masterly style by Valentin Moineault, the Auto Sport Academy acclaimed its 2014 champion, Lasse Sorensen from Denmark, who was on the podium with young Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci and Anglo-Swiss Félix Hirsiger back for the second year running. Nicolas Deschaux, President of the French Motor Sports Federation, came to congratulate the drivers for their brilliant year accompanied by Dominique Lunel, general secretary of the Auto Sport Academy, and Hugues de Chaunac, the ORECA Group President.
Moineault got his weekend off to a perfect start in the Var by setting the fastest lap in qualifying giving him pole for race 3, while Sorensen was second quickest clinching pole for race 1. After wrapping up the title last weekend at Jerez in the WSR meeting Sorensen, in relaxed mode, started from pole and racked up another victory in the first race in front of Hirsiger and Amaury Richard who scored his maiden top-3 finish!
Belgian Max Defourney started the hotly-contested second heat on pole thanks to the principal of the reversed grid for the first 10 in race 1. Victory went to Mexican Patricio O’Ward followed by Sorensen hot on his heels and Defourny. The final round saw a French driver victorious on home turf thanks to Moineault who hit the front from Sorensen and Hirsiger. He had to fight all the way to win the last race of the 2014 season as he was under enormous pressure from Sorensen, who had another great weekend, and Boccolacci in a thrilling three-way scrap.
All the trainees and the whole Auto Sport Academy team finished the year with a flourish and got together to acclaim the trio of brilliant drivers, Sorensen, Boccolacci, and Hirsiger. Nicolas Deschaux, President of the French Motor Sports Federation and Dominique Lunel, the general secretary of the Auto Sport Academy gave Sorensen, the winner of the 2014 French F4 Championship, a cheque for 100 000 euros. The first three were awarded a trophy and a watch presented by the BRM Company, famous French watchmaking, a partner of the Auto Sport Academy since 2012.
