The final round of the 2014 CIK-FIA Academy Award brings together at Sarno 44 of the 51 drivers who originally entered, a very respectable total late in the season. From the first practice sessions the leaders went top of the standings with a fastest time for Berkay Besler, and convincing laps for Kakunoshin Ota, Richard Verschoor and Rinus Van Kalmthout. Max Hesse, Oliver York, Murilo Della Coletta, Zakhar Slutskiy and Lucas Légeret were also highlighted while Alexander Vromant started quietly.
The Academicians are still using the front spoiler that retracts in case of contact, but a new version where the aluminum plate has been removed. KG has tested the system on KZ karts to adjust the level of responsiveness. The fixing is now slightly more upright. At the regulatory level, the black flag with orange disc will not be used o intervene. A systematic review will be made after the finish, with video verification to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, before applying a penalty of 30′ when the spoiler has been dislodged. The driver can also choose to return to the pits during the race to replace the spoiler as this solution may give a gain relative to the penalty.
