The weather was dry, but not the track, so most drivers chose wet tyres, probably influenced by the surrounding grey clouds. Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla) lost out to Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart / Vortex), and then spun and lost a lot of places. Benjamin Lessennes (Kosmic / Parilla) was second to Jules Bollier (Kosmic / Parilla) and Mick Junior (Tony Kart / Vortex). Mick Junior fought with Bollier for 3rd and the French driver fell to 8th. Meanwhile Ahmed took off with a 1.3 second lead on Lessennes on the second lap. There was a big gain for Mauricio Baiz (Kosmic / Parilla) in 7th place, 21 positions higher. Starting on slicks, Zendelli was currently struggling at the back of the pack, and Sun Yue Yang (FA Kart / Vortex) had retired.
Lessennes improved his time and returned to the leader from the 4th lap. Ahmed responded by posting a fastest lap just after the Belgian put his foot down on lap 6 and both drivers alternated the fastest laps. The difference was around 5/10. Mick Junior was still third, peaking at 2.5′ from the lead. Bollier and Leuillet dropped down the rankings. With great drama, Lessennes retired on the 9th lap apparently with a technical problem. Ahmed found himself alone in the lead 5.6′ ahead of Mick Junior and Kush Maini (Exprit / Vortex) 3rd, Baiz 4th, Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart / Parilla) 5th, Juri Vips (Zanardi / TM) 6th, Anton Haaga ( Kosmic / LKE) 7th and Ross Martin (Energy / TM) 8th, an improvement of 23 places for the British driver.
The last third of the race saw a fastest lap set by Haaga, still in sixth position, four tenths faster than anyone. The track was improving, as Ahmed replied with another fastesr time. Baiz closed on Maini, Haaga attacked Lorandi to gain fifth position before the Italian retired. Baiz managed to pass Maini. Ahmed did not drop the pace and he had a considerable lead of over 7’on Mick Junior, himself more than 4′ from Baiz.
Enaam Ahmed deservedly becomes 2014 KF-Junior World Champion and Mick Junior his Vice-Champion.
