Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM) was on pole next to Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) for the KZ2 prefinal at the WSK Champions Cup. Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM) was in third position ahead of Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart / Vortex), Rick Dreezen (Zanardi / Parilla) and Davide Fore (CRG / TM). A big crash involving a dozen karts at the bottom of the circuit before the chicane meant the race was red flagged before the second lap. The scenario was exactly the same as in the last round the night before when the radiator on the ART GP / TM of Mirko Torsellini suddenly dropped a large amount of water on the track … Amazing!
The race resumed in full a few minutes later, with many gaps on the grid. This time Ardigo resisted but Hanley managed to pass a few turns later, and Dreezen too before the end of lap 1. Patrik Hajek (Praga / Parilla) retired at the hairpin. Pex took 4th ahead of Camponeschi and Douglas Lundberg (Alpha Karting / TM). Dreezen seized the lead on the second lap. Jérémy Iglesias (Lenzo / LKE) made a great start and was running 7th ahead of Fore, Pex and Jonathan Thonon (Praga / Parilla). There was a fight between Iglesias, Fore and Thonon on lap 4.
Dreezen managed to take seven tenths ahead of Hanley who was being attacked by Ardigo. Thonon was the fastest on the track, he attacked Lundberg who defended on lap 11. Ardigo tried to go up the inside of Hanley, but spun. Thonon tried twice to pass Pex. Dreezen won by over a second ahead of Hanley, Camponeschi was 3rd, Thonon 4th, Pex 5th, Iglesias 6th and Lundberg 7th.
