This time, the sun was going to win the fight against the clouds above the Campillos circuit. The start of the Senior Rotax Winter Cup 2014 final went smoothly for the first few rows, but Nicolas Picot retired after a collision and Eva Benes restarted a long way back and then gave up. The British driver Guan Yu Zhou (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing) retained his advantage over his compatriot Joseph Reilly (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing), followed by Sweden’s Jessica Backman (Tony Kart – Strawberry Racing). The Belgian Glenn Van Parijs (Tony Kart – Bouvin Power), in 4th place, led the chasing pack with the Dutch drivers Yaro Deckers (FA Kart – Team TKP) and Lars Lamborelle (FA Kart – Dan Holland Racing), the British drivers Connor Jupp ( FA Kart – Dan Holland Racing) and Tom Grice (Tony Kart – Coles Racing) and the Estonian Aaro Talvar (Tony Kart – Talvar Racing) ahead of the 9th places British driver Jack Bartholomew (Tony Kart – KR Sport). Zhou and Reilly were elbow to elbow, Backman slightly lagging, but she remained far ahead of the pack. Lambrorelle took fifth position ahead of Van Parijs. Jupp followed in sixth position.
The duel for first place was intense between the two teammates from Strawberry, Zhou and Reilly, even though the positions hadn’t changed yet. Jupp got through to 4th place ahead of Lamborelle and Talvar. Reilly passed Zhou with two laps to go. Jupp was losing ground in the fight in favor of Van Parijs and Lamborelle in 4th and 5th. The outcome was uncertain as there was little difference between Reilly and Zhou. But Reilly managed the last lap to perfection and won by 0.153”. Superb 3rd place for Jessica Backman, while Jupp took fourth position ahead of Van Parijs in 5th, Talvar 6th. The French survivors Corentin Collignon (Zanardi – MPK Racing) and Kevin Petit (Sodi – Kart Racing Pro) were 27th and 29th respectively.
