Competing in the last round of the Italian Championship in KZ2 at Castelletto was a good idea, but some entrants did not tolerate the young French driver’s speed, so much so that they forced him off the track during the race. Though his final result was affected, Dorian’s extraordinary performance was satisfactory enough for him not to regret his week-end.
Since the end of free practice, Dorian Boccolacci (Energy/TM) had been in the lead pack of KZ2, before he set the third fastest time, less than one tenth of a second short of pole position. He took 4th place in the first heat, but with the fastest lap time, and then won the second heat, after moving up from 6th to 1st place. In the paddock, some people were irritated to see such a young driver already so competitive in his third KZ race. Apparently, another competitor, on his 6th international season in the 125 gearbox class, took this situation hard and did not hesitate to cross the limits of fair play on several occasions.
As a consequence, Dorian was eliminated from Race 1 on the very first lap. Therefore, he was last on the start grid in Race 2, but this formidable driver passed his opponents one by one and was about to attack the leader, when the latter sent Dorian off the track again on the last lap. In this race Dorian had no particular ambitions, apart from improving his knowledge of KZ, which he did excellently. In any case, he was 5 tenths of a second faster than the winner over the lap… Well done!
