Though he has just made his debut in KZ2, Dorian Boccolacci won the most important race of the year. At just 15, this young driver from the F1 Lotus Junior Team amazed all the observers as well as his rivals by winning the International Super Cup held at Varennes sur Allier (France), against a group of over 80 specialists of the 125 gearbox class. It is a historic victory that reveals yet again all his talent.
Before the world meeting at Varennes, Dorian had only carried out two days of tests and competed in a preparatory meeting in the Italian championship the previous week. The International KZ2 Super Cup, which he faced as a real rookie, represents the evolution of the World Cups organised until 2012. It is the reference competition for this class that gathers many of the best specialists in the world. Right from timed qualifying, Dorian’s performance was more than convincing: he seemed capable of joining the podium fight.
He had a technical problem in his first qualifying heat, which however did not stop him from winning the 5 remaining heats. His competitors started to consider him no longer as a beginner, especially after another victory in pre-final 1 that enabled him to take the first line in the final race. He held the second place for most of the race and was involved in the fight for top 3 positions. He waited for the right time to make his move and attacked the new leader with two laps to go, crossing the finish line with a 0.7 second lead.
This incredible performance thrilled the public as well as observers, while excitement overwhelmed his friends. Gaining control of a 125 gearbox kart in such a short period of time and winning such an important competition is a unique feat in the annals of karting.
