We would like to inform you about the developments surrounding the Ciao Thomas Knopper Memorial, which was due to take place on October 20th and 21st of this year. As you may have heard there have been some misunderstandings/problems between Kart Club Kerpen and the TK Racing foundation.
As a result there was a distinct possibility of two races taking place on the same date: our race and the Graf Berghe von Trips race, in combination with the final of the Bridgestone cup.
We understand that by holding two races on the same date we would be forcing drivers to choose between the two.
Having to make a choice like that is something that goes against everything Thomas stood for and how he regarded racing. We, at the Thomas Knopper Foundation, also do not want to put drivers in a position where they have to choose where to drive. We had a very constructive meeting with Kart Club Kerpen, represented by Mr. Gerhardt Noack, and the outcome of the meeting is as follows:
There will be no Ciao Thomas Knopper Memorial race in 2012.
Our foundation has decided to kindly step aside in favour of the Bridgestone cup final race. In return, Kart Club Kerpen has stated that they will cooperate in hosting the Ciao Thomas Knopper Memorial again in 2013 on the beautiful circuit of Kerpen, apart from the Graf Berghe von Trips race; a single event with all the classes we had planned for this year.
We will start organising the 2013 edition of the Ciao Thomas Knopper Memorial, with the same enthusiasm and commitment as last year, to ensure that it will be an event that will remain in everyone’s memory!
We would like to thank all of you for your support and we would gladly welcome you in Kerpen for the 2013 edition of the Ciao Thomas Knopper Memorial.
