Over the two heats for KZ1 in the dry, Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / Maxter) proved intractable, winning twice almost unopposed. He would share the front row for the final with Fabian Federer (CRG / Maxter) who was consistent, but beaten in the last heat by Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) who recovered well from his 13th in qualifying. Simo Puhakka (PCR / TM) moved up to fourth after the heats ahead of Armand Convers (Kosmic / Vortex), Yannick De Brabander (Formula K / TM) in 6th, Davide Fore (CRG / Maxter) in seventh, Bas Lammers (Praga / Parilla) eighth, then Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM).
The final started under a downpour and a track suitable for sailing. Abbasse started perfectly with Ardigo in his wake. Hajek and Hanssen were planted in the gravel by the stand, De Brabander dropped back. Lammers was in third ahead of Federer, Convers, Fore and Puhakka. De Brabander was recovering. Convers attacked Federer for fourth place, with Fore following. De Brabander and Antonio Piccioni were unhappy after going off the track: adding two more retirements.
Ardigo didn’t let up the pressure on the leader Abbasse. Convers was close to Lammers, but went off while trying to control Fore who was attacking. Ben Hanley spun but remained on the track and didn’t even lose a place. Convers attacked Lammers in front of the stand. Kozlinski re-entered the top 10, also overtaking his teammate Puhakka who doesn’t much like the rain.
Abbasse slightly increased his lead over Ardigo, so now a little less than a second separated the two men. Convers ensured his third place by pulling away significantly from Lammers. Rick Dreezen gained places, returning to sixth, and Federer needed to watch out for Kozlinski. Ardigo was threatening Abbasse on the last lap, but victory didn’t elude the French driver. Convers was third, Lammers was fourth, and Fore fifth.
