In an extremely rare event, two drivers set, to the nearest thousandth, the fastest time in qualifying for the 23rd Trofeo Margutti at Lonato. The Russian Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart / BMB) and the French Dorian Boccolacci (Intrepid / TM) both posted 43.486s, perfectly matched in the first session on Saturday morning. Sitnikov took pole with his second fastest lap, slightly faster than Boccolacci. The result had some surprises, groups 2 and 3 were slower.
The Finn Valtteri Semi (Tony Kart / Vortex) followed closely in third position ahead of Italy’s Diego Bertonelli (Spirit / Vortex) and George Russell (Intrepid / TM), the latter pair also tied with 43.591. Luca Corberi (Kosmic / Vortex) was seventh, Lance Stroll (Zanardi / Parilla) 14th by 0.184 seconds, Paolo Besancenez (Sodi / Parilla) 17th by 0.216 seconds, Felix Nilsson (Enegy / TM) 19th, Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / Vortex) 0.303 back and in 22nd, Julien Darras (Intrepid / Parilla) 24th, Alex Palou (CRG / BMB) 27th, Thomas Landais (Sodi / BMB) 39th, Anthony Guglielmelli (Birel / Parilla) 65th, Luca Enzo Cardinali (Tony Kart / Parilla) 73rd.
