The suspense is was for the DD2 Masters title in the category for drivers aged over 32, as the Rotax World Finals was dominated by the South African Cristiano Morgado since the beginning of the meeting. But the fight could be fierce behind between Danny Brand (Belgium), Dennis Kroes (Netherlands), Scott Campbell (Canada) and other competitors, and we followed the progress of the French driver Guy Pansart from the fourth road, William Berteaux on row 5 and the recovery of Frank Rouxel, on the last row of the grid.
Morgado already flew from the lights at the front from Brand and Gerry Hargitai (Hungary), followed by Peter Lundström (Denmark). Berteaux was eighth, but Pansart fell to 22nd position at the start, followed by Rouxel coming through. Campbell was eliminated at the start, as was Kroes. Lundström took Hargitai for third position, then captured second from Brand. Meanwhile, Morgado took off by more than a second ahead on the third lap. Hargitai was back in second position after a daring overtaking move on the chicane, but the duel continued with Lundström. Berteaux recovered the sixth place, Pansart was fast in 16th position.
At the halfway point, the lead for Morgado was over 3”. Brand took over second place closely followed by Lundström and Hargitai. Mastuya Takao (Japan), who started 22nd, threatened Brent Coghlan (Australia) for fifth. Lundström dropped two places because of a strange line in a corner before the finish line.
On the last lap, Berteaux gave it everything to take third place ahead of Hargitai, Brand and Coghlan. Christophe Adams finished 6th, Pansart 12th and Rouxel 20th, while Cristiano Morgado triumphed.
