Charles Leclerc (MC) was one of the last to go out in the first session of the Academy Trophy in qualifying at Sarno. Meanwhile, Dorian Boccolacci (Fr) to pressed hard, knowing that his machine was not fastest. Mikel Azcona (Esp) was in the lead for a moment, then Simon Mirguet (Be) stole the show, but Leclerc came into contention. Benjamin Barnicoat (GB) was now at the top of the table from Mirguet and Leclerc. Azcona returned to the lead but was dislodged immediately by Moilanen (Fin). Oleksandr Tkachenko (Ukr) was fastest to go out in the second session from Mattia Drudi (Ita) and Max Defourny (Lux). The positions were swapped between the three drivers ahead of Marijn Kremers (NL) and Thiago Vivacqua (Br) who moved back up the rankings. Drudi took second ahead of Defourny. The final score was: 1.08.752 for Kremers, then Drudi by 0.035 and Defourny by 0.107 then Vivacqua and Tkanchenko fourth and fifth.
Moilanen took pole in front of the Academy Trophy contenders Leclerc and Barnicoat, and Kremers was 4th overall from Drudi, Mirguet sixth, Defourny seventh and Vivacqua 8th.
