The rain had stopped at La Conca for the first qualifying heat of the WSK KZ Master Series. However, the track stayed mostly wet under the gray sky, low and heavy in Puglia.
Paolo De Conto (Energy / TM) and Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) were on the front row. Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart / Vortex) was in third position behind the leaders by beating Douglas Lundberg (Tony Kart / Vortex). Beitske Visser (Intrepid / TM) made an excellent start from her 15th position and was already eighth on the first lap.
Ardigo then took the lead ahead of Dreezen and De Conto, followed by Patrik Hajek (Tony Kart / Vortex), Jesper Wernersson (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Lundberg. Tony Lavanant (PCR / TM) was in the wake of Visser, but had to fight against Gary Catt (Tony Kart / Vortex). Catt quickly took 6th ahead of Lavanant and Visser.
The track dried a little, and drivers with slightly too high pressure could be left behind. Hajek attacked De Conto for 3rd place. The Tony Karts were very efficient with 5 drivers in the top 6.
Marco Ardigo won ahead of Rick Dreezen. Could De Conto maintain his 3rd place against Hajek in a drag race on the line? Neither our sharp eyes, or the live timing, somewhat lazy on this one, could distinguish them.
