Even more than in KF3, the three groups of KF2 qualifying experienced changing grip. The improvement of the track has been constant over the sessions through all possible states of “frankly wet” to “still wet”
Lock-King, King-Lock, then it was finally Oscar King (Tony Kart / Maxter) who was fastest of his group with 59 489, ahead of Chris Lock (Tony Kart / Vortex), Raymie Eastwood (Birel / TM) and Loïc Réguillon (Intrepid / TM) 5th.
Callum Bowyer (Tony Kart / TM) fought with Tom Grice (Maranello / Maxter) who is back on the international scene: Tom Joyner (Gillard / TM) and Alexander Walker (Tony Kart / TM) were at the front at the end, then Victor Sendin (Tony Kart / Vortex) was back in 8th position on the final lap. John Filippi suffered after going out on his dry chassis:he didn’t have a sticker on the wet chassis to be allowed to go out. Bowyer (59.328), Walker, Joyner, Grice, Morris-Jones was the classification of group 2.
Luke Varley (Tony Kart / Vortex) dominated the third group, constantly improving his times before getting beaten to pole by Jordon Lennox-Lamb (Birel / BMB) whoclocked the fastest time of the day with 58 984 on the last lap. Steven Napier (Tony Kart / TM) finished third from Sam Snell (Intrepid / TM) and Jordan King (Energy / TM).
Again the 101% rule wasn’t applied due to a difference of only 0.856% between sessions. The first group of drivers dropped inexorably … Pole went to Lennox-Lamb before Varley, Napier, Snell, Bowyer, … and there were 13 Britons in the top 13! The first French driver was Alex Baron (Sodi / Parilla)who took a fine 16th place. Five drivers were excluded because of problems with the Alfano clutch control system: Rouchy, Sendin, Tenorio, Colome and Barrabeig.
