The debut of this 2010 season has revealed a new talent in KZ2, with arrival at the top of young Dutch driver Beitske Visser, the fastest in timed qualifying in the Margutti Trophy category. This result offers the right opportunity to dwell on the unusual path followed by this young girl, a few days after her 15th birthday.
Her passion for karting does not date back to yesterday. At the age of 3(!), she manifested her wish to drive karts after attending a 24-hour race. She had to wait patiently for two years, until her parents gave her a Baby Kart as a present. Beitske began to train and then started racing at the age of 7, finally fulfilling her wish to drive these strange machines. 60 Mini and then ICA Junior led her to the top 5 in Holland and Belgium.
In 2007, she made her international debut in KF3, with CRG Holland and then Kosmic Racing Department. Beitske finished 6th in the Asia-Pacific Championship in Macao, in 2008, after racing in Italy, Germany, Belgium and so forth… In 2009, she changed direction with a 100% Rotax Junior programme and reached second place in the Rotax Winter Cup, in addition to being 11th at the Euro Challenge with Intrepid.
This year, Beitske has taken an important step by entering 125 gearbox, a category considered “virile”. But that did not scare this young, sweet girl, who spends most of her time in the paddock and whose favourite driver is a certain Bas Lammers, her compatriot e and team mate. She shows an unusual determination and great confidence in her capacities.
“I am giving myself a few months to master the KZ2 and then I’ll make some serious effort to win at the end of season”, declared Beitske, regretting her non participation to the heat taking place before her eyes in slicks in the rain! “For the moment, I suffer a bit from a physical point of view, but that’s all. I am going to make up for that with more physical training and some biking in between races. Then I would like to continue my career in car racing, I have already taken some tests in Renault Formula and BMW Formula, but I am not in a hurry. Next year, for example, I would see myself well in KZ1.”
With her official Intrepid/TM, Beitske is 7th in the WSK and was, with no trace of intimidation, the fastest in timed qualifying at the Margutti Trophy, an astonish debut for a rookie!
Her calendar for 2010 includes 16 races: full WSK Euro programme, World and Master, European Championship, Monaco Kart Cup and Supernationals in Las Vegas at the end; there is definitely a good chance that the only female driver of the group will attract a lot of attention and not just for her charm.
