Inlet silencers are a fundamental part on a kart. They have two main functions: reducing the noise of the engine and preventing impurities that could damage the engine from getting in. The CIK/FIA regulations impose very strict measurements for the construction of inlet silencers: for example the internal volume should not be greater than 4 litres, and the diameter of the aspiration tubes should not be greater than 23mm or 30mm according to the homologation class.
The top of the range product from Righetti Ridolfi in this sector is called NOX, and is built in two versions, for the KF and KZ classes. It has only just been launched and is the top product you can possibly find with regards to inlet silencers. The reason is clear from the numbers: the filtration efficiency is as high as 99,7%, compared to normal sponge filters that can only manage a maximum of 75%, and they also suffer more of a pressure drop. The merit for this can be attributed to a special filtering material that is also used in Formula 1. So the homologation criteria requested by CIK-FIA have been easily met. Early prototypes allowed the company to perform numerous tests on track before signing off the final design of the equipment. In this way the most efficient solution was obtained. The silencer is also available with a mirror shine finish or chromed noise pipes.
Danilo Moia, Rigetti Ridolfi Racing Department Manager. “With a NOX inlet silencer the engine will be able to breath like never before thanks to a special filtering element. This can offer an important advantage above all when it is hot. When temperatures are high the air is thin and struggles to get to the engine. Just like a patient suffering from asthma needs his medicine, an engine needs a NOX inlet silencer“.
