It rained at Alcaniz during the last free practice sessions. This wasn’t sensational in itself given that the dark clouds gradually piled up over the Motorland. However, the track wasn’t quite dry all the way across at the start of timed qualifying. Some competitors made the gamble not to go out during their 1st session, at the the risk of seeing their hopes ruined by a downpour. But just this once, it was not the case …
Overall, the times decreased steadily over the 6 sessions, but without giving any decisive advantage to users of fresh tires. The hierarchy from free practice was upset in qualifying.
Cooper, Nortoft and Beretta were in the 1st group, Vigano, Luciani and Moller-Madsen in the second, and Tiene, Cucco and Spenger in the last were the fastest in their sessions. But Brandon Maisano (LH / Vortex) set the absolute best time as the only competitor below 59 seconds!
Matteo Viganò (Birel / Parilla) took 2nd place, ahead of Felice Tiene (Kosmic / Vortex), Mirko Luciani (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Matteo Beretta (Tony Kart / Vortex). The first driver who participated in only the second session was 8th, Jacob Nortoft (FA Kart / Vortex) just ahead of his compatriot the Danish driver Nicolaj Moller-Madsen (Energy / TM). The Portuguese David Da Luz (Zanardi / Parilla) completed the top 10.
Very early in the day, Michelle Gatting (Maddox / Parilla) took 13th. Loïc Réguillon (Sodi / Parilla) and Paul Loup Chatin (Tony Kart / Vortex) to be held 28th and 29th ranks, while Clement Bluy has enjoyed another series black with two retirements in the first rounds of meetings chronos …
