Although his status as an F1 driver was the cause of his invitation to the press conference for the KZ1 World Cup at Sarno, Jaime Alguersuari’s performance on track would almost have explained his presence alongside Jérémy Iglesias and Jonathan Thonon. Indeed, with 7th fastest in qualifying, he ran in the top 10 with ease in the middle of the karting professionals. Not bad for a driver who last raced in 2005!
Jaime responded to questions from journalists with the professionalism that is expected of a Formula 1 driver. More journalists were there than usual, one wonders why…
“I left karting very young and I am excited to return for fun in a competition as important as this. Everyone knows that testing is banned in F1 and karting is a great opportunity to train and have fun at the same time. My results are not bad at all against the elite in 125 gearbox, I am glad to improve myself, both by fine-tuning and at the start. To me it’s not at all a publicity stunt, but it’s good if karting enjoys a bit more media coverage thanks to me. I hope to continue my momentum for the finals tomorrow and I am ready to return next year in this event.”
