Slightly wet but soon dry and humid again, the track at Essay was a real headache for drivers in KF3 final. It wasn’t ready for wet tyres, but sometimes slicks were sliding. This difficulty seems to have motivated Jonathan Hélias (Tony Kart / Vortex) in particular to find the best line possible, an area where he has demonstrated originality. Starting in the lead, no one could challenge him for the victory.
Before the start, Alex Baron (the championship leader) and his team-mate John Filippi retired seemingly following spark plug problems. There was then a long series of skirmishes caused by the changing weather conditions leaving only 12 competitors to cross the finish line.
2nd for a long time, Enzo Guibbert (Birel / TM) lost ground when the rain intensified again and finished 4th. Nicolas Gonzales (Mirage / TM) was strong when it was almost dry, moving into second place, but he could no longer keep up when it was “pretty wet.” He finished 7th. On the contrary, Victor Sendin (Birel / TM) almost grew wings to reach 7th position. Starting 4th, Pascal Belmaaziz (Intrepid / TM) dropped back a long way, before returning to challenge for a podium. There was very good race from Pierre Gasly of Normandy (Sodi / Parilla), who pushed for 2nd place by dint of perseverance and attack.
The rain intensified to the point that the race was stopped by the red flag, where the result is taken from the lap before. Enzo Guibbert rejoiced because it “cleared” an unfortunate exit from the track, and Jonathan Hélias could forget his spin that made him cross the line just ahead of the spoiler Gasly.
