The current Super KF regulations are not unanimously popular among the major karting manufacturers. Most of them decided not to participate in the European Championship, which begins on April 17 at La Conca. CRG owner Giancarlo Tinini explains their decision.
« As a manufacturer of chassis and engines, we need a class with loose regulations to allow us to test our latest technical developments in race conditions. This is not a whim or a luxury. Everything we test in such a category is then directly used in the new KF2 and KF3 engines to make them more reliable and more popular. For us, Super KF must be a laboratory, which may be expensive, but is necessary for our global production of KF engines, just as haute couture is essential for the distribution of ready to-wear clothes.
We did not find any positive response to our concerns from the CIK officials, who remain in favor of very strict regulations, which are paradoxically difficult to monitor effectively. That’s why we will not participate in the Super KF European Championship.
Today, the only acceptable solution is the creation of a committee comprising mainly of manufacturers, but also teams, drivers and organizers, whose goal is the development of simplified rules so the mistakes of the past are no longer repeated. The CIK should be responsible only for implementing such legislation prepared by the Commission and should focus on the promotion of Championships.
Our sole purpose is that karting becomes a popular sport, cheaper, with more competitors at all levels, from regional to international, as it was not long ago with the ICA and the Super A. We will do everything to achieve that.»
