On the track that saw him win his first KZ1 World Cup in 2007, Jonathan Thonon’s (CRG / Maxter) performance is already evident from the timed trials. The battle has been tight, with Jérémy Iglesias (Intrepid / Maxter) also in top form.
The KZ2 times improved significantly with the cessation of the rain, and the wind was strong enough that the asphalt dried up quickly as they lapped. No less than 3 seconds have been gained just in the last session, and the gap with the first group on wet tyres was 17%, more than 11 seconds over a lap. The problem of the choice of tyres was crucial for the competitors in the second session. Those who chose slicks seemed to be expecting a lot. Those who chose wets were a long way off, like Florian Alfano. Those who hesitated until the last moment, were stuck in the Parc Ferme! This was the case for Gary Catt, Norman Nato, Roberto Toninelli. The law is harsh…
In the standings, Thomas Knopper (PCR / TM) took 2nd place from Iglesias and his new teammate Bas Lammers. Thomas Mich (Monza / TM) is ranked 5th ahead of Simo Puhhaka (PCR / TM). Alessandro Manetti is already quick with 8th on the first version of his new chassis, AM Performance. Armand Convers (Kosmic / Vortex) finished 9th, Manu Renaudie (Gillard / SGM) 12th, Gianni Gazzurelli (FA Kart / Vortex) in 25th and Arnaud Kozlinski 32nd, with plenty of development to do on his Maxter, and 32nd went to Alfano.
Further back, we have Alessandro Piccini (Intrepid / TM) in 40th position, ahead of the outgoing champion, Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex). Davide Fore was put back to the tail of the ranking, 46th, as he was underweight where he joined other stars, Nato, Toninelli and Catt.
