The start of the Final was favourable to Evan Giltaire. The Frenchmen didn’t hesitate when the lights went out and he got the best start. The outside line was not very good. The German Farin Megger took the opportunity to settle in 2nd place ahead of the Dutchman Dani Van Ruiten and Augustin Bernier, who gained a place. The Russian Yakov Sokolov fell a few places.
Bernier was fast at the start of the race and overtook Van Ruiten. The leader Giltaire continued his effort, but the pressure from Megger took its effect, and Giltaire did not seem to be able to keep up the same pace. In mid-race, the German was ahead of the two Frenchmen Giltaire and Bernier. In mid pack, Théophile Nael had gained some places, unlike Léo Poncel who had dropped back.
At the front, Giltaire unfortunately dropped the pace and Megger flew to victory. Giltaire could not resist his compatriot Bernier, during a manoeuvre that benefited Van Ruiten, who kept up a very fast pace. The chasing pack had settled down a bit, and Sokolov escaped after taking 4th. He too overtook Giltaire, definitely struggling in this Final.
In front, the top three negotiated the closing laps without any trouble. Germany’s Farin Megger won in front of Dutchman Dani Van Ruiten and Frenchman Augustin Bernier, who’s performance in the Final was magnificent and incisive. He gave Team France a first and magnificent podium.
Russia’s Iakov Sokolov was 4th ahead of Australia’s Costa Toparis, who gained four places. The Frenchman Théophile Nael crossed the finish line in 21st position, two places ahead of his compatriot Léo Poncel. Evan Giltaire, who deserved much better, was 11th.
