The qualifying heats of the World Junior Championship were, to say the least, fiercely contested in a veritable marathon, mostly at night. Surprises were constant, not to mention the many penalties for dropped spoilers.
David Vidales (Tony Kart / Vortex) is well ahead of Victor Martins (Kosmic / Parilla), who has not had an easy day despite his two victories but is doing well in 2nd position. 3rd place went to Hampus Eriksson (Tony Kart / Vortex), also twice winner, ahead of Oscar Piastri (FA Kart / Vortex) and Gianluca Petecof (CRG / Parilla).
Fin Kenneally (FA Kart / Vortex) has climbed to 6th after his 27th in Qualifying. Sami Taoufik (FA Kart / Vortex), delayed in Heat 1 by a penalty, but a two-time winner, and Dennis Hauger (CRG / Parilla) is in the top 10.
Adam Eteki (CRG / Parilla) has mastered his new equipment to finish 20th with a victory, a retirement and two fastest times, an improvement of 33 places since Qualifying. Théo Nouet (Energy / TM) made a good recovery to 22nd place. Milane Petelet (Praga / TM) finished better than he had begun and was in 38th position just behind Gillian Henrion (Kosmic / Vortex), whose progress was halted by two retirements.
Starting as one of the big favourites, Noah Watt (Tony Kart / Vortex) could not get back on track and finished 62nd without taking part in the final heat. It will be necessary to wait for the two decisive Prefinals of Saturday afternoon to know the list of 34 qualified drivers that will compete for the World Championship.
